With this bulb I was able to re-purpose a halogen torchiere. Halogens produce too much heat; thats not bad in a northern winter, but terribly wasteful in the south.
I believe this bulb is only a 75 watt equivalent and I was replacing a 150. Therefore the torchiere doesnt illuminate as large an area, but the illumination it provides is pleasant and more than adequate.
The design of this bulb, which included 360 degree illumination was also important as this particular torchiere that I have re-purposed provides a bit of downward illumination through colored glass.
I am able to leave the torchiere on while watching the TV and there is enough light to see / walk around the room, but not so much light that it interferes with watching the TV.
If youre looking for 1 bulb to simulate daylight, this wont work, but if you want pleasant, gentle illumination (without the heat), then this bulb is perfect. If you have multiple fixtures you will get a well lit area.
I highly recommend investing in the bulb if you want a (75 watt?) equivalent without the heavy energy consumption and heat production

Great replacement for Halogen work and outdoor lights. About half the output of a 500 watt Halogen but much less heat and power consumption. No fear in leaving them on all night outside. Module is sturdy and well made. Be prepared to adjust the fit of the bulb. There are many different fixtures out there. In my fixtures the bulb was just a slight bit long. I had to loosen one of the mounts and re tighten to provide a little more room. No complaints so far.

I used two of these in a new wall fixture in the "warm white" color. They make a pleasing light, and I get about 150 incandescent watts worth of light for 20 watts, which saves energy and means I dont need to worry so much about someone leaving the light on. They are nearly instant-on (about a half-second delay), but there is no warmup period like CFLs. These bulbs were just a little long for the sockets I had, which I fixed by putting spacers in the socket end mounts. I think they would have fit but it would have been very tight. Other sockets could be different. Build quality seemed good.
I would recommend these.

This light works great. Took my power consumption from 150W to 5W. Its slightly dimmer than before, but the quality of light is really great, and it is a snap in replacement. It also runs cool, which is a bonus. Highly recommend this bulb.

Replacement for halogen in torchiere

I have many tall halogen torchieres that put out wonderful light. The only problem is that they tend to set fire to things, heat up the room, and run the electric meter at high revs. Essentially they are hairdryers that light up.
This bulb just barely fit, with the bottom of the bulb touching the reflector panel under the sockets. The light is lovely, and disappointing only if youre expecting to match the lumens of the halogen. I wish they could get 20 watts of LED in there, but its a miracle that theyve been able to get 10 in this compact cylinder.
I just bought 4 more, so the world can stop worrying about global warming....at least my contribution to it.
