I have only one of these bulbs (bought to test in bathroom vanity). I too was replaceing 40 watt bulbs and these seem like 20 watt equivalent at best, more like 15 watts for the warm white version). Perhaps if I chose the white version, which should be somewhat brighter, I would be more satisfied. As it is... I prefer other bulbs like the 5 Watt 35 Super Flux (3 Chip) LED Light Product Code: 83428 (if you only have a few sockets for your vanity) or Standard Ultra Bright LED Light Bulb
Product Code: 42336 (if you have 5 or more sockets for your vanity). Plus, these are very large bulbs. I would think a better application for these bulbs would be in posts or garden lights, but it is just a matter of taste I suppose.

Great for vanity light bars

A perfect replacement for globe lights found in vanity light bars (usually 4 to 8 lights).
The one used in our master bathroom uses 8 bulbs which originally consisted of 8 40 watt Reveal bulbs (total of 320 watts used). Replacing the 40 watts with these bulbs brought the usage down to just 32 watts for the same light level.
When youre looking at converting your house to LED lighting, this is a good place to start.

Very Nice Bulb

I have a four bulb Dining Room Oak/Brass fixture W/Touch Dimmer and tried CFL bulbs
that were so called Dimmable, but didnt do
it well or acceptable to me. I tried four of
these Globe LEDs and they would go into a
flickering mode while dimming them so I use
2 Globe LEDs and two Incandescent bulbs to
achieve fair results. The other two Globe
LEDs are used in table lamps, one in my
computer room and the other in a hallway that
is on most of the time and save lots of KWH
(many dollars) as I replace the CFL bulbs in
my home as they die of old age/use. But, 45
Watts is reaching a bit as its more like 36 to 38 or I have some very bright 40 Watt Incandescents.

The compact florescent globe light we had in place over the stair landing finally burned out after 7 years. We bought this light to replace it because it is a globe and uses about 1/3 of the energy of the other. The only issue we have had is the difference in intensity of the light. It is not like a 50 watt incandescent bulb, rather it provides a light similar to what you would get from a small window(Daylight). I am growing comfortable with it, it does the job, but would not serve well as a work light. It certainly turns on immediately and I am comfortable leaving it on overnight as a night light.
